Current Status of CO₂-Derived E-fuels
18 January 2024 by Eve Pope
Chemically identical to fossil fuels, CO2-derived fuels can be used within existing engines with no modifications as a drop-in replacement. If the hydrogen used to synthesise the CO2-derived fuel is produced from renewable powered electrolysis, the process of making the CO2-derived fuel is known as "Power-to-X" (X being a liquid or gaseous fuel), and the fuel can be classified as an "e-fuel". This premium article provides clarity on the energy and hydrogen demands for e-fuels along with the current status globally.
